3. Troubleshooting

3.1 - Why can't I execute the client after installation?

  • Check the cgusip_env.bat file under the CGUsip Installation directory (the default directory is C:\Program Files\CGU_NCL\CGUsipv1.1). This file includes the necessary paths to run the CGUsip Client. Please check to see if JAVA_PATH, JMF_PATH, and JRE_PATH variables refer to their respective paths. JAVA_PATH is the complete path to java.exe file. JRE_PATH is the complete path to main JRE installation directory of the current version. JMF_PATH is the complete path to main JMF installation directory of the current version. Please make sure there is no white space before or after the "=" sign.

3.2 - Why am I having problems running video with the application?

  • You did not configure your camera for use with the Java Media Framework. Make sure that your camera and its drivers are installed. Execute the JM Studio which comes with the Java Media Framework installation. Navigate to File -> Preferences -> Capture Devices. Click on the Detect Capture Devices button. JMF will add an entry to the captured devices list for the video device you have installed before. Close the window. Exit the JM Studio.

3.3 - What should I do if the application hangs my machine?

  • Some Java Runtime Enviroments (version 1.4.1 being one) have been known to cause problems. Try installing JRE 1.4.0 or an earlier version of the Java Runtime Environment in the 1.3 series.

3.4 - Why is the application not working correctly behind a firewall?

  • As of now, CGUsip v1.1 does not work behind a firewall or NAT. Try executing the client without being behind a firewall or NAT.
  • If you wish to circumvent the firewall, you can refer to the port listing in section 1.3.
